What is
WIC?
WIC stands
for Women, Infants, and
Children and is also called
the Special Supplemental
Nutrition Program. WIC is a
federal program designed to
provide food to low-income
pregnant, postpartum and
breastfeeding women, infants
and children until the age
of five. The program
provides a combination of
nutrition education,
supplemental foods,
breastfeeding promotion and
support, and referrals for
health care. WIC has proven
effective in preventing and
improving nutrition related
health problems within its
population.
Services are
available Monday-Thursday
8:15am -5pm.

Breastfeeding Promotion &
Support
Let Surry County's
Lactation Team
help you achieve your
lactation goal by assisting
you with your breastfeeding
needs. Our free services
include hospital, home and
clinic visits, telephone
counseling, pump rentals,
support groups and
educational classes.
Our
breastfeeding classes are
offered each 2nd and 3rd
Thursday of the month. For more

Community
Nutrition Education
The Nutrition
Center provides various
community education programs
throughout Surry County.
Losing 4 Life is a
12-week weight management
program provided in
conjunction with Reeves
Community Center that
encompasses behavior
modification and healthy
lifestyle changes. Various
presentations or classes
that fit your nutritional
needs can be designed. Our
Nutritionists and Registered
Dietitians are available for
classes/presentations
throughout Surry County to
schools, colleges, churches,
civic/social groups and

Medical
Nutrition Therapy
Hypertension,
high cholesterol, diabetes,
weight issues…If these are

Nutrition Center assist you.
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
services provide nutrition
education to clients that
have a variety of conditions
and illnesses to improve
their health and quality of
life. With our staff of
three (3) Registered Dietitians and
our diabetes program that is
accredited by the American
Diabetes Association, we
offer a full line of
services to help you reach
your nutritional goals. MNT
appointments are made by
referral only. For questions

Diabetes
Education
Our Diabetes Education program is accredited by
the American Diabetes Association and includes a variety of
options. The Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME)
Program involving individual consults and group classes
requires a physician referral. Upon receiving the referral, our
department will contact you to schedule individual appointments
with our Diabetes Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian.
All DSME consults and classes are filed with the client’s
insurance, Medicaid or Medicare. A sliding scale payment plan
based on proof of income is used for the non-insured or
non-covered expenses -making our programs affordable to all. For more information, please call Holly York at 336-401-8419.
FREE
monthly Diabetic Education Classes You, Me
and Diabetes with a friendly relaxed sharing atmosphere
are offered in conjunction with the Cooperative Extension Agency
of Surry County. Classes are held at the Extension Agency in
Dobson and at Reeves Community Center. Grocery Store tours for
persons with diabetes are also held during the year. For more
